KENYAN DOCTORS VOW NOT TO RETURN TO WORK UNTIL GOVERNMENT SETTLE THEIR DEMANDS

The Striking doctors lead by their union officials have today gathered in Nairobi vowing not to return to work unless their demands have been fully addressed. This come amid the paralysis in the health sector which has halted operations in all public hospitals.

Speaking during a media briefing secretary General KMPDU Dr Davji Atella has said the ministry of health has  reduced the salary of interns by 91percent against the collective bargaining agreement and it must pay the basic salary arrears of seven years and also  must pay post graduate fees for doctors in the university.

The union officials have said counties are giving exploitative contracts to doctors who are struggling to meet the ends even as the  ministry of health and that of labour  have not shown a clear plan to solve the stalemate.

Every kenyan has a right to access healthcare across the country  and if anyone dies the government should be held  responsible according to Dr Atella, who has said doctors cannot go back to hospitals through threats and intimidation by the employer.

The doctors Union has called on the health cabinet secretary Susan Nakumicha to fully implement the CBA  which she says was signed by a difrent government which the doctors  insist is  legally binding.

The government should implement the CBA as it is before it can sign a new one.KMPDU says it has lost four doctors to suicide due to frustration at  work, calling on counties to refrain from terminating salaries of doctors.
