Non state actors steering committee a platform that strives for the advancement of a pro African agenda in all key climate spaces under the umbrella of Pan Africa Climate Justice has called on the head of African states to adopt a more comprehensive and inclusive approach to just transition to low carbon markets saying the summit did not adress the issue fully thus failing to state clearly the African position to rich nations for the historical and current emissions that has lead to global warming.

Addressing a news conference jointly in Nairobi the non state actors have highlited another miss in the just concluded climate summit that it not highlight how African leaders will work together to exert pressure on developed countries to deliver on their financial commitment to African countries. The climax of the summit that lead to the Nairobi declaration also failed to prioritize adaptation as a critical concern for Africa.

African leaders should commit to a just renewable energy and policies that promote descent work and environmental justice, human rights, gender equality and climate justice and reverse biodiversity loss ahead of the global summit to be held in Dubai. The COP 28 should state the voice of African leaders to developed countries and ensure they take full responsibility of their emissions, enact climate favourable policies and adress the funding mechanisms.
