KENYAN GOVERNMENT COMMITS TO END PETROLEUM ILLICIT TRADE

During the State of the Petroleum and Oil Industry Briefing, Dr. Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary of Internal Security and National Administration, emphasized the critical role security plays in ensuring the stability and prosperity of Kenya's petroleum sector.




 The briefing centered on combating illicit trade in the petroleum industry, aligning with the government's economic transformation agenda.



Speaking during the event at a Nairobi hotel Dr. Omollo underscored the interconnectedness of reliable petroleum products and national security, highlighting their importance in fueling security operations and infrastructure, Challenges such as unauthorized refilling sites, product adulteration, and siphoning pose significant threats to both consumers and national security.



Recent initiatives, including a Rapid Result Initiative (RRI) targeting rogue LPG dealers, have led to the registration of thousands of petroleum facilities and the identification of common illegal practices.Dr. Omollo outlined strategic measures to combat illicit trade, including deploying advanced technology for surveillance, strengthening legal frameworks, public education, and enhancing enforcement capabilities.



However there is need for collaboration between government agencies, industry stakeholders, and the public to ensure the integrity and safety of the petroleum sector.Dr. Omollo concluded by urging collective action to safeguard consumers and uphold the integrity of Kenya's petroleum industry, emphasizing that only through collaboration can the nation achieve sustainable development and prosperity.
